How to Enable the Grid Overlay in Squarespace

If you’re working on a Squarespace site and want your layout to look sharp, the grid overlay is your secret weapon.

It makes aligning blocks, adjusting spacing, and keeping everything balanced a whole lot easier.

And the best part? You can turn it on and off instantly with just one simple keystroke. No tricky shortcuts, no digging through settings.

How to Enable the Grid in Squarespace

To bring up the grid while editing a page in Squarespace, just follow these steps:

1) Go to the page you want to edit

For example, open your Services page (or any page where you want to check alignment).

2) Click Edit

This opens the Squarespace page editor.

3) Press the letter “G” on your keyboard

Instantly, the grid overlay will appear, giving you guides to align your content perfectly. Press “G” again to toggle it off.

💡 Pro Tip: You don’t need to press Shift + G / CTRL + G — just hit the G key on its own to toggle the grid.

Why Use the Grid?

The grid is a simple but powerful tool that keeps your layouts looking sharp. It helps you:

  • Maintain consistent spacing between text, images, buttons, and other elements

  • Line up items neatly across columns and rows

  • Fine-tune your mobile design too — just switch to mobile view and press G to bring up the mobile grid
